WHAT ARE THE BSI REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKPLACE AED KITS?
The BSI (British Standards Institution) updated its first aid guidance in April 2026 to include the provision of automated external defibrillators in the workplace. The BSI recommends that any workplace with five or more people on site should provide a clearly visible AED in a cabinet or wall-mounted unit. Wherever possible, the AED unit should be accessible within two minutes from all areas of the site.
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO INSTALL A DEFIBRILLATOR CABINET?
Defibrillator kits should be installed in high-traffic and highly visible central locations. Reception areas, breakout spaces and staff rooms are all popular places to have AED cabinets fitted. They should also be placed in any zone identified as a high-risk area – this may include warehouses, sites with heavy machinery, gyms or sports facilities.
