Made in Chelsea stars Ollie and Gareth Locke and their rescue dog ‘Bear’ has been crowned top dog by the public, as the winners of the Celebrity Dog of the Year Award 2021.
After a ‘ruff’ wait while the votes were counted, the happy couple and their Pomchi claimed the top spot in home and business solutions specialist BiGDUG’s award in honour of National Dog Day – or National ‘Dug’ Day to some.
Beating off competition from Lewis Capaldi, Olivia Attwood, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Tom Hardy, little Bear got his paws on the award with 3,108 votes. However, it was not an easy win, as fans of the MIC couple battled down to the wire against ex-islander Olivia Attwood and her beloved dog Lola, to clinch the number one spot. ‘Someone You Loved’ singer Louis Capaldi’s pooch Frank also finished in third place after his fans publicised a huge push for votes.
Bear, who was rescued by Ollie, also beat off competition from ITV’s Lorraine Kelly and her border terrier Angus, Actor Tom Hardy’s pooch Blue and Duchess of Cornwall’s dog Beth. Ollie and Gareth found their beloved four-legged friend when he was just 17 weeks old and has been a part of the family ever since. He now also plays an important role in the couple’s home as big brother to their new Long-Haired Chihuahua, Aslan.
Polly Maclennan, Public Relations Manager, at BiGDUG said: ‘’We’re extremely pleased to be crowning Bear with our Celebrity Dog of the Year Award, 2021. It was a close call between Bear and Olivia Attwood’s dog Lola, and there were points where we really weren’t sure who would win.
‘’We think Bear is a very deserving winner and we’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to vote on the competition in honor of National Dug Day.”
