Ease of Assembly
Value for Money
I took the previous review into account before ordering this, it helped greatly. As it states, the instructions are not entirely useful. Go by the online pictures and you'll have some top quality shelving.
Ease of Assembly
Value for Money
I already owned some of the value shelving and didn't think twice when I needed a further storage solution. Product 'CBK1B' met my needs perfectly. Everything's great now it's up but putting it together was a pain in the %!* from start to finish. First of all, the package arrives as 2 x 5-shelf units, which means you end up with more parts than you need to build one 10-shelf unit. Fair enough, but this should be made clear up front as it means you need to arrange for disposal of the excess steel. Secondly, because the product is a 'virtual' creation, combining two products to build, the supplied instructions aren't actually for what you purchased. Okay, the principles of how the shelves fit together are the same, but how many holes up from the floor do you place the first shelf? How many holes above that do you install the second and subsequent shelves? This is pretty important detail, and I ended up relying on the online images to guide me - far from perfect (imagine a customer without internet access on-site where this product is built). Thirdly, the actual shelf - the wooden bit - needs putting in place before installing the metal supports for the shelf above. It is impossible to fit afterwards, which I learned the hard way, and is contrary to the instructions supplied. Last of all, the shelving units come with a safety insert that states "the top shelf must be installed in the uppermost position" (or words to that effect). As you can see from the online images, bigdug.co.uk don't take their own advice. You have two choices, you can ignore the insert or insert the highest shelf at the very top which looks seriously out of place compared to all other shelves. You cannot move all other shelves upwards because the corner supports (/legs) are connected at the halfway point and thus the holes there are used. Bottom line, the product is pretty good for the money, the boxes are nice and sturdy and you get 20 extra for free (80 used and 2 x 50 bundles supplied). But the provided instructions don't match your purchase and the safety insert forbids you from building the product as displayed online. From previous experience of www.bigdug.co.uk products, this is very disappointing and would put me off further purchases of bundled-together products.
