According to The Press Association, councils across the UK are more prepared for severe weather conditions than they were last winter.
Apparently town halls in both England and Wales have approximately 1.4 million tonnes of grit salt combined – that’s about 1,500 tonnes more for each council.
Therefore, 51% local councils have more grit salt at the start of this winter than at the start of winter in 2010 to 2011, so each council has an average of 4,000 tonnes of grit salt.
Almost a third of all councils are also reported to have purchased new gritters and, in order to keep the public up-to-date with the latest conditions, councils will be regularly updating their websites about their grit services.
The Local Government Association also stated that councils within England and UK have also received new GPS tracked gritting fleet trucks, snow ploughs and specialised vehicles for awkward streets and hills.
Many residents across the UK have also taken it upon themselves to grit their own streets to avoid accidents or being trapped inside their homes this winter.
Anyone that is interested in purchasing private or public grit salt should be sure to head to a reputable provider such as BiGDUG, as they offer a variety of grit salt bin solutions that can clear icy and snowy streets and areas.
