Essex County Council Announce No Grit Bans until Next Winter

According to the Halstead Gazette, Essex County Council has refused to replace salt grit bins in the Halstead region. As a result, this could ultimately make junctions incredibly dangerous during icy conditions.

Essex County Council reportedly removed a grit bin from Upper Fenn Road a few months ago, and a resident from Colne Road, Simon Edney, claimed he recently complained to the County Council about the missing bin.

Mr Edney, 38, commented: “If there’s no salt to put down and we do decide to drive down, we are not going to stop at the bottom, we are just going to go crashing out. It’s a very quick and dangerous road so it’s extremely dangerous.”

There have also been reports of damaged grit bins on Stanstead Road and White Horse Avenue. The County Council is apparently undertaking an audit to identify where they should install future bins for next winter.

Anyone concerned about icy and snowy conditions in their area should contact a reputable provider of salt grit bins, such as BiGDUG. Private and public grit bins can make areas safer during harsh weather conditions, and can ultimately prevent accidents and injuries; therefore, they play an important part in road safety.
