Keep More Organized With Shelves

Shelves are used in all applications. Whether you are in big industry or a small office, the importance of having the right shelving is critical. And today there are so many options available that it can be overwhelming. Don't let it get to you, though. It's important to understand not only how to choose the shelving you need, but where to look and how to choose the right company to provide your shelving for you.

Preparing

When buying shelves, you must first do a bit of research to be sure that you know what you need. If you are in a large industry and will be storing extremely heavy objects on it, you will want to look at a metal shelving system that will stand up to the type of weight you will be heaping on it. These shelving systems usually are made out of steel tubes that are welded together to support a large amount of stress. You will need to think about how much you can spend and make sure you have adequate space to hold these types of shelves.

First, measure your space. Plan how long you want your rows of shelving to be. Think about how things will be filed. If they are laying flat you may want a heavy duty system that has a lot of drawers. Large, bulky items will be able to use the metal shelves that allow you stack things on top of one another. Plan to leave enough space so people can walk around them and access what they need.

Finding a Vendor

When looking at buying a large or complicated system of shelves, you might do best to find a local vendor. However, you can still look online and see what other places have to offer. Just remember that you will have to calculate freight into your total cost.

When searching online, you want to make sure that the vendor has been verified by an outside agency in some way. If there are icons on the site from a certain agency, contact the agency in question and make sure the company is on their list of certified vendors before you buy your shelves. Some websites may have obtained only the graphic and not the actual certification. Anyone can steal a photo from another site and place it on theirs.

Service

Don't deal with a website that doesn't have a phone number listed. They should have a page dedicated to service, and many even offer live chat, allowing you to ask questions online with a live agent. Even if the agent answers your questions anyway, call the number just to be sure it works. This will prevent you from buy a set of shelves that never arrive and leave you without the money to purchase what you need.

Making the Purchase

Once you find your shelves, contact the vendor and arrange for delivery. Like most other office furniture, you will need to have all the money up front. Large systems are usually going to have to be delivered by freight. Find out what kind of assembly is required, and if the vendor offers support for this too.
