Storage Shelving Becomes the Centerpiece of Every Room of the Home

Storage shelving used to be the big ugly metal racks hidden in laundry rooms, garages, and any place out of sight. But as the age of the consumer ramps up and people now acquire more stuff than ever before, its become a necessity to move storage out of dark closets and into the light, many times becoming the focal point of every room. Let's look at them room-by-room.

Bathroom

These rooms are where all of us spend a good portion of our lives. From showering to shaving and everything in between, never has good storage shelving become so important as in this space that is often small and sometimes shared with the whole family. One of the most common places to have storage is over the toilet. Here, free-standing shelves can be installed to hold towels, toiletries, and other odds and ends. Many times they include at least two shelves to hold items. There may be a door that slides to conceal clutter or not. Other common places include underneath and on top of the sink, as well as next to the tub. Here, drawers and free-standing shelving usually help due to the lack of space.

Family Room/Living Rooms

Storage shelving has never been important here as before. With the advent of hi-fi entertainment systems, many people build shelves directly into the wall or invest in expensive cabinetry to conceal all their components. You will want space to hold your CDs, DVDs, cassettes and videocassettes, as well as any other entertainment-related items. You can find units available in all colors, finishes, and styles. Someone may want fun shelving with frosted-glass doors and colored plastic. Bookshelves and toy boxes are common as well.

Home Office/Guest Bedroom

Many people combine their home office with their guest bedroom, often incorporating a child's playroom here as well. Storage shelving can help one easily and quickly turn a room from a home office into a guest room for unexpected company. Here, a good closet with multiple depths of shelving is a good investment, as well as clear plastic bins for extra sheets, toys or office supplies, depending on your individual needs.

Bedroom

Storage shelving may not be as important in adult bedrooms, but children tend to accumulate a lot of stuff and the right shelves are import to keep mountains of clutter from appearing. Be sure to combine playful designs with functionality to keep a children's room from looking boring or like a storage closet.

Storage Areas (Closets, Laundry Room, Garage)

Rooms that are used to store things are often where you hide everything that you don't want anyone to see. Here, function takes precedence and the style of things are not as important. You won't need to worry about anything but how long it will last.

While there are other areas of your home you can change, these are the most common. Before long you will enjoy and easily keep your home free of clutter.
