My dream stereo
As an expert in shelving, I am always happy to hear from people who have got some benefited from it. Here is one such testimonial which shows the advantages of shelving.
“As a kid, I was always interested in music- country, rock, and rhythm & blues. I loved going into my father’s closet and looking at all his records. I would read all the lyrics, write them down to memorize them better, and just rock out. I was a dreamer and I wanted the best sound system money could buy. My parents didn’t have that kind of money so I would just go to rummage sales and buy all the speakers my little allowance could afford. I would set them up in a half moon on my bed and turn on my favorite song at the time. By adjusting the speakers I could find a certain sweet spot where the music was just right. I could feel what the artist was feeling when their drums, guitar, voice was embedded into the vinyl. The set up for this musical adventure, while wonderful, took too much time and effort to set up. I only had a short period of time to listen before mom came calling for me to start my chores, or my little brother started annoying me.“
“One day in science class we were learning about levers and their power to move or hold large objects. The teacher was passing out a worksheet with different pictures of levers and an idea dawned on me. I would design my own wall lever, or as most people would call it, a shelving unit.”
“My father is an engineer so any time I displayed some sort of interest in building or creating something, he was totally involved and the sky was the limit. We drove out to the lumberyard and found some circular wooden pieces and metal ‘L’ brackets that would be perfect for my shelving idea. Next we purchased the wood stain, as I wanted something dark to match the carpet in my room. I have very fond memories of that day with my dad. Of course we made a big mess and I ended up cutting myself with the saw (and have the scar to prove it), but it was all worth it when my colossus of a shelving stereo system was assembled in all its glory. The sweet spot was about 5 feet away from the speakers so I could sit in a chair and enjoy-unlike the early days where I had to lie on the bed. The shelving unit was positioned on the wall above my head so I could even get a unique sound while trying to fall asleep at night.”
“About 20 years have passed since the construction of the shelving stereo system, and there are now pictures of graduations and grandkids adorning the boards, but it still hangs on the wall like the day my father and I created it. If you ever have a weird child, like I was, please encourage them to explore and create. I wouldn’t be a sound engineer with a major recording studio if it hadn’t been for my parents’ support.”
I hope you enjoyed reading this testimonial. I hope to share more of these with you in future.
